Nano Teachers Network

    313

Nano Teachers Network was established in 2011, as one of the departments of Nano Education Foundation (NEF) aiming to identify and grow capable students interested in teaching subjects related to nano science and technology. This network aims to create a platform for education and promotion of nanoscience and nanotechnology among students of universities and schools. Individuals who have received the certificate issuing their competency in teaching subjects related to nano science or technology from Nano Education Foundation will become members of the network.
The certificate is awarded to capable and interested university students following a standard test (for evaluating knowledge of candidates in nano technology and science) and an interview (for evaluating the capability of candidates in teaching). Distinguished candidates can obtain a teaching competency certificate in three levels i.e. A, B or C. According to the results obtained from the above-mentioned test and interview, each of accepted individuals is approved for teaching to school students, university students or both of them.
Evaluation tests are generally held in two stages. The first stage focuses on scientific and theoretical aspects in the field of nanotechnology. Topics of this test include nanostructures, methods of nanostructure synthesis, methods of characterization and analysis of results, nanotechnology uses in various fields. Test-takers who have obtained the necessary academic qualification in the first stage will enter the second one.
The second stage is online or in person teaching interview. During the interview, participants will teach a specific topic in the field of nanotechnology. Evaluators present in the interview announce their views for the interview based on the teaching method and the following ask and answer session. The performance of candidates in the interview is evaluated based on three criteria including mastery on scientific content, personal skills as well as classroom management skills.
The results of the first stage test have no impact on the final result.  The first stage is considered as the entrance to the interview stage, The scores of the interview session determine the final list of accepted candidates.
The validity period of this certificate is two years from the date of its issuance. Sufficient activities and instruction by the teachers are resulted in extension of the validity period of the certificate.
By the end of 2021, 100 nano teachers actively pursue nano education across the country. However, 9 out of the mentioned 100 teachers with the level of A, 55 with the level of B and 36 with the level of C participate and instruct in educational courses coordinated by nanotechnology promotional institutions. It is worth mentioning that 17 teachers instruct for school students; while 26 of them instruct for university students. Also, 57 teachers actively take part in courses coordinated in universities as well as schools.
