A manhole is a valve for entering large pipes, municipal sewage systems, underground power transmission, or large reservoirs. In municipal sewage systems or power transmission and underground telephone lines, this valve is used for inspection, maintenance, repair, and updating of the system and prevents people or objects from falling into the pipes or intended sites. In addition to providing accessibility, other applications of the manhole include collecting groundwater and transferring it to municipal sewage systems. The manhole is usually used on the streets of urban areas and some sidewalks. Manhole covers are made of steel, cast iron, composite, polymer (polyethylene), or concrete in different dimensions and shapes such as circles or rectangles. The cheapest type of this product is made of concrete and the most expensive type is ductile cast iron. In general, factors such as the traffic load on the manhole which affects the size of the manhole and the materials and elements used in the production, have a direct impact on the price of this product. The manholes usually have openings that the hooks are usually inserted into them to lift the valve. These openings can also be used to seal or allow light to enter the manhole. Due to the importance of proper strength against the passage of vehicles or possible shocks during installation and use, it is important to improve the mechanical properties of these valves. There is also the possibility of corrosion of metallic manholes against hydrogen sulfide in municipal sewage. Therefore, the use of durable and inexpensive materials is important. Nowadays, by using nanoparticles in the manufacture of concrete manholes, it is possible to provide suitable properties of strength and moisture resistance. The presence of these nanoparticles in the internal structure of the manhole prevents the propagation of cracks and also prevents water penetration and increases the useful lifespan of the valve.
