The StatNano’s report on nanotechnology patents in EPO confirms the presence of the US and East Asian countries including South Korea, Japan and China within the list of those countries with largest number of applicants for the publishing or published patents in EPO. Germany and France have also the highest contribution in this field among European countries.

On Tuesday, 29 August, a common meeting was held with the participation of Iranian and Indonesian nanotechnology practitioners, aiming at developing cooperation in the field of nanotechnology. At this meeting, Iran’s nanotechnology achievements were introduced, and active companies of both countries negotiated the nanoscience. The introduction of technological achievements of two Iranian companies about the production of polymer matrix nanocomposites was one of the interesting points of this joint meeting.

An online data and analysis repository giving users an inventory of nanotechnology information, Statnano is developing databases in order to contribute to the promotion of nanotechnology applications. In this regard, a database concerning nanomaterials has been founded, containing different nanomaterials which are classified into two categories, that is, nano-objects and nano-structures.

In the first six months of 2017, more than 5500 applications have been recorded by the US Patent Office (USPO) for the nanotechnology-related patents. The US and East Asian countries including Korea, Japan and Taiwan have been the largest contributors. Iran is also ranked 22nd in this ranking.
