A research team from Sahand University of Technology, Iran, in close collaboration with Tennessee University, USA, designed and manufactured a biological nanosensor capable of detecting the hazardous substances in canned foods with enhanced precision during twenty seconds. Whereas the laboratory-scale production of this nanosensor costs only three thousand tomans, its finished cost including electrical circuits will reach fifty thousand tomans.

Researchers at Babol Noshirvani University of Technology have made microbial fuel cells with the aim to develop the new clean energy sources. The electrodes of these cells are made of bacterial cellulose, as a cost-effective alternative for conventional electrodes such as graphite counterparts. Their research work has been conducted on a laboratory scale.

Iranian researchers from Kashan University in close collaboration with scholars from Deakin University of Australia successfully developed the application range of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through the inspiration from leopard skin. The obtained experimental results are reported to be employed in nanoelectronics, drug delivery systems, and water treatment.

In a close collaboration, researchers from University of Hormozgan, Tarbiat Modares University, and Razi University have successfully synthesized a nanosized photocatalyst for the efficient elimination of ubiquitous contaminants in refinery wastewater. Unknown for full-scale results, the laboratory-scale experimentations of the as-synthesized nanosized photocatalysts for wastewater treatment applications have confirmed the elimination of organic contaminants by 80 % at Bandar Abbas oil refinery.
