An Iranian research team at the University of Zanjan synthesized a photo-degradable nanocomposite that can be used for food packaging.
A Photo-producible and photo-degradable nanocomposite is synthesized by Iranian researchers at the University of Zanjan. The production cost of the nanocomposite is lower compared to other photo-degradable products which provide a unique competitive advantage for this novel nanocomposite.
The analysis illustrates that using titanium dioxide nanoparticles improved the mechanical properties by 25 percent, as well as increasing the photodegradation process by 20 percent and reducing the water-vapor permeability by 25 percent compared to pure starch.
Vahid Goudarzi, graduate student, and Iman Shahabi-Ghahfarrokhi, a faculty member at the University of Zanjan are key team members working on this project. The results of this research are published in the International Journal of biological macromolecules with an impact factor of 3.909.
