The development of Clinical Diagnosis tools, one of INIC's main activities in 2024

Dr. Emad Ahmadvand, in a news conference held in Nowruz, highlighted the achievements of IRAN Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council in 2023 while elaborating on some of Its plans for 2024.

At the beginning of our discussion, the Secretary General of IRAN Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council (INIC) announced the issuance of nano-scale certificates for nearly 400 new products in 2023. Dr. Ahmadvand highlighted the successful implementation of Nanobubble technology at the Saveh water treatment plant pump stations, emphasizing its potential to enhance water quality and improve the quality of life in other cities facing similar challenges. This marks a significant advancement, as Nanobubble technology has primarily been utilized for wastewater treatment in Iran and globally, with its application for drinking water treatment being a novel development. The project's success underscores its potential to address water quality issues on a broader scale, offering hope for its widespread adoption in the future.

He also discussed how nanotechnology is utilized across various industries, mentioning its presence in more than 15 sectors. Currently, approximately 360 companies in the country are engaged in producing nano-products. The healthcare field stands out as a notable area where the impact of nanotechnology is evident. Although consumers may not fully grasp the influence of nanotechnology in pharmaceuticals, the economic and social effects of nano-drugs are significant. In social terms, nano-drugs enable easier access to advanced treatment methods and medications. This accessibility leads to more effective treatment options becoming available. Economically, nano-drugs help prevent currency outflow, while insurance companies can profit from nanotechnology. Studies have shown that the use of Iranian nano-drugs has reduced costs for insurance companies, resulting in greater profitability. Thus, the economic benefits of nanotechnology sometimes surpass the actual sales volume of nano-drugs. In the energy sector, nanotechnology has had notable impacts as well. For instance, domestically manufactured nano-equipment is employed in the revitalization of oil wells, while nano-additives aid in improved oil extraction. In the construction industry, the market demand for nano-products exceeds that of other sectors, with 50% of nano-product sales attributed to this field.

Dr. Ahmadvand discussed the main points of INIC's activities for the new year, "In 2024, our primary objective is to bolster the diagnostics field, with an emphasis on its affordability and accessibility," he stated. Dr. Ahmadvand highlighted INIC's efforts in the micro sector, particularly in the development of clinical diagnostic tools, which differ technologically from nanotechnology and operate on a micro-scale. Collaborating with other councils such as Biotechnology Development Council and Iran National Science Foundation (INSF), we will concentrate on developing diagnostic kits to enhance their development within the country. Additionally, we are keen on advancing self-powered devices that are battery-free, a project we aim to pursue with the support of the INSF.
