Nano Cages Which Can Trap Greenhouse Gases

A research team at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad designed a metal-organic nanostructure framework which can remove greenhouse gases from the air.

The metal-organic nanostructure frameworks (MOF) designed in this project are effective tools that can remove greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. These MOFs are made from copper and their efficiency are measured by CO2 removal rate.

In this project, the application of the produced MOFs in the separation of carbon dioxide from nitrogen and also from methane was theoretically investigated. High calculated selectivity of CO2 over N2 and CH4 reveals the potential of the product in gas separation.

Dr. Masoud Mirzaei, faculty member, and Dr. Azam Hassanpoor, Ph.D. candidate at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, and Dr. Mahdi Niknam Shahrak, faculty member at Quchan University of Advanced Technologies Engineering, are key team members working on this project. The results of this study are published in the Journal of Dalton Transactions with an impact factor of 4.1.
