On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Iran Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council hosted journalists and media members in the “Market analysis of Nano products made in Iran” meeting. At the beginning of this meeting, Dr. Emad Ahmadvand, Secretary General of Iran Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council(INIC), while supporting the oppressed people of Gaza, spoke about the necessity of strengthening the country to become better and stronger, in the field of Nanotechnology, he emphasized the need to support companies and industries to strengthen the country. He stated that one of the requirements for the advancement of Nanotechnology in the country is the continuous monitoring of the commercialization and development of Nanotechnology products in the country's economic enterprises.
Dr. Ahmadvand explained the method of calculating the Nano market size in the country: “By preparing questionnaires, we ask the companies with Nano products to provide us with the data needed to calculate the size of the Nano market, which out of 350 Nano companies, 285 companies The questionnaires answered.”
He added: “According to the information collected by experts, at the end of 2022, 1428 Nano products were commercialized by 350 active companies in this field and received an industrial Nano scale certificate from the evaluation and supervision unit of the Iran Nano and Micro technologies Innovation Council; The total sales market of these products in 2022 was more than 1125 million dollars, which has grown by 50% compared to last year, and more than 6.3% of this market, is the export of these products, and 93.7 “The percentage is related to the domestic market.”
The Secretary of the Staff also continued: “In the last four years, the domestic Nano products market has increased from about 80 million dollars in 2019 to more than1000 million dollars in 2022, with an average annual growth of 90% and about 50% more than the average The annual inflation rate of the country in this period was based on the official announcement of the Iranian Statistics Center.”
According to Dr. Ahmadvand, the three industrial fields of construction, automobile and oil, gas, and petrochemicals respectively have the largest share of the Nano products market in 2022. Nearly half of the country's Nanotechnology market is related to the construction sector; Also, about 90% of the market of the next two areas, i.e., automobile and oil and gas, are made up of types of automotive, oil, and petrochemical Nano catalysts. The four technologies of Nano-coating, Nano-catalyst, Nano-mixing and polishing, and surface treatment contribute the most to the production of Nano products made in Iran. About 70 companies with a Nano sales volume of over 2 million dollars per year are active in the country, which has 85% of the volume of the Nanotechnology market in Iran. In 2022, more than 69 million dollars of Nano products made in Iran have been exported to 48 countries in 5 continents of the world, and more than 80% of Nano products exports were to the countries of Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, respectively.
In the next part of this meeting, Dr. Ahmadvand analyzed some Nano products made by Iran. He said about the three anti-cancer medicinal products that are manufactured inside the country; “These products have prevented the departure of 90 million dollars of foreign currency from the country in recent years and have also exported 9 million dollars.”
About the market of Nanocatalysts, Dr. Ahmadvand said that from 2020 to 2022, a total of 17 companies have produced Nanocatalysts in the fields of oil, gas, and automobiles, and their total sales in three years were 280 million dollars. 56% of the Nanocatalyst market is related to oil and gas and 44% is related to the automobile industry.
According to the Secretary General of Iran Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council, in the field of Nano-coating, during the past years, 5 companies have been active in the production of industrial Nano-coating equipment. With the production of this equipment, the total sales of these companies in the secondary market of Nano-coating products, such as sanitary faucets, and tiles, are about 100 times, fittings, porcelain and crystal and metal artifacts have been developed.
