The Iran Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council (INIC) participated virtually in the Asia Nano Forum (ANF) Summit 2026, held on 16–17 July 2026 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, where it introduced three strategic proposals aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in advanced technologies, human capital development, and international standardization.
The annual ANF Summit brings together representatives from member economies to discuss emerging technology trends, expand scientific and industrial collaboration, and define joint regional initiatives. This year's meeting was held alongside the Annual Conference of the Taiwan Society for Nanomedicine, with delegates from Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Iran, and other ANF member economies.
Regional Cooperation in Micro- and Nanoelectronics
INIC's first proposal focused on establishing a regional collaboration network in micro- and nanoelectronics. The initiative calls for closer cooperation among universities, research institutions, and industry to promote joint research and development projects, researcher exchanges, and scientific events.
As part of this proposal, Iran also suggested organizing the Transformative Technologies Symposium 2027 in collaboration with ANF members. The symposium would address emerging fields such as neuromorphic computing, smart sensors, bioelectronics, and advanced technologies for smart mobility, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and long-term technological partnerships across Asia.
Developing Human Capital
Recognizing the importance of nurturing future talent, INIC invited ANF members to participate in future editions of the International Nanotechnology Olympiad for High School Students (INO-HS), building on Iran's successful experience in organizing the competition.
Iran also highlighted its role as the permanent secretariat of the International Nanotechnology Olympiad for University Students and encouraged member economies to participate in the third edition of the Olympiad, scheduled to take place in Chinese Taipei from 6 to 12 December 2026. The initiative aims to identify outstanding young talents, strengthen specialized education, and expand regional networks of future nanotechnology leaders.
Collaboration on International Standards
As its third proposal, INIC called for enhanced regional cooperation in developing ISO standards for nanotechnology. Iran proposed joint work on three priority areas:
Technical specifications and performance evaluation methods for graphene and other two-dimensional materials used in energy storage systems.
Specifications and testing methods for thermal insulating nanocoatings.
Guidelines for the application of fine and ultrafine bubble technologies in aquaculture to improve water quality and production efficiency.
Strengthening Regional Innovation
Iran's active participation in the ANF Summit 2026 demonstrates its commitment to advancing regional partnerships, supporting strategic technologies, investing in human capital, and contributing to the development of internationally recognized standards. These initiatives are expected to foster collaborative research, accelerate innovation, and reinforce Asia's role in the global nanotechnology ecosystem.
