INIC organizes national nanotechnology competition in order to achieve the promotional and educational goals set out in Nanotechnology Strategic Plan. This competition is the largest scientific competition in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. It is held annually with the participation of thousands of university students and graduates interested in nanotechnology. In line with the competition among the participants, it is considered as a basis for assigning nanotechnology teaching certificate to distinguished ones. They are also considered as candidates for entering Nanostartup program (A startup studio for commercializing nanotechnology-based ideas presented by national nanotechnology competition participants).
The purpose for holding such a competition is to increase the knowledge of students and researchers in nanotechnology. It is also aimed to identify the country's nanotechnology elites. It is an excellent approach for students. It motivates them to remain competitive on their path of education.
The questions of such competitions ease the students to understand the concepts better. They get a robust foundation of basic concepts. In such competitive exams, the questions are mostly application-driven. Besides testing the student’s knowledge of concepts, it also examines how the concepts get applied.
Distinguished university students who compete in these exams can add their achievements to their educational profile. National Elites Foundation also supports them through a number of elites supporting plans.
The first stage of the competition was held online in three days at the nanotechnology education website (nanoeducation.ir). The candidates had the opportunity to participate in the online exam. Out of 5076 persons registered for the first stage, 2643 persons participated and competed with each other.  The top 302 participants entered the second stage. The second stage was held in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, Gorgan, Tabriz, Kashan, Ahvaz, Sari, Rasht, Kerman, Hamedan, Urmia, Bandar Abbas, Sanandaj, Qazvin, Arak, Qom, and Farrokhshahr.
