Sulfur compounds such as hydrogen disulfide are toxic and corrosive and must be removed from petroleum compounds. Sweetening of sour gases is possible by removing sulfur-containing compounds from petroleum products. Sulfur burning is a method with considerable environmental impacts. Thus, sulfur recovery can be used instead. The most important desulfurization process in petrochemical industries as well as refineries is called Klaus method. In this method, sulfur is extracted from hydrogen sulfide in natural gas and also other gases that are produced as side products during crude oil refining. It is possible to recover and reuse 92-95 percent of sulfur using Claus method.
By using nanotechnology in production of activated alumina, it was used as the main catalyst in the sulfur recovery process using Claus method. Activated Alumina is one of the most widely used absorbent in various industries.
Competitive advantage of these catalysts is their lower prices when compared to products of foreign companies commonly found in the market.
Companies active in the fields of oil, gas, petrochemical, steel, and mining industries as well as tile and ceramic industries are the main possible customers of the company’s products.
