These innovative converters utilize nanotechnology to transform harmful exhaust pollutants into harmless gases. By reducing the consumption of precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium while enhancing catalytic efficiency, the product not only lowers production costs but also delivers superior performance in reducing emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and unburned hydrocarbons.

The NanoMark certification, issued jointly by the Iranian National Standards Organization and the Iran Nano and Micro technologies Innovation Council, serves as an official recognition of the product’s advanced technology and quality standards. This achievement marks a significant step toward cleaner air and the promotion of green technologies in Iran’s automotive industry.

Catalytic converters, first mandated in the United States in 1976 for gasoline engines, have been installed in Iranian passenger cars and pickup trucks since 2004. The most common type, the “three-way catalyst,” simultaneously reduces three major pollutants (CO, HC, and NOx) into non-toxic gases such as nitrogen (N₂), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and water vapor (H₂O).

Iran Delco’s nano-catalyst is produced by coating ceramic substrates with oxide compounds and embedding uniformly distributed nanoparticles of platinum, palladium, and rhodium. This nanoscale distribution creates a higher density of active sites, significantly improving reactivity and catalytic efficiency.

Following a thorough evaluation process, the Iran National Standards Organization approved the issuance of NanoMark certification for Iran Delco’s product on August 15, 2025. With this recognition, Iran Delco has become the first company in the country to receive NanoMark for catalytic converters.

Officials emphasize that expanding the use of NanoMark-certified products will strengthen consumer confidence, prevent misuse of the “nanotechnology” label, improve market competitiveness, and open new opportunities for exporting Iranian nanotechnology-based products.
