The methods of evaluating the release of nanomaterials from commercial composite structures containing nanomaterials became the national standard

 March 06, 2024  Standard & Certification

The meeting of the National Nanotechnology Committee of the Governor's Organization was held with the presence of representatives from universities, standards organizations, technology companies, and active laboratories, under the leadership of the Iran Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council, and the national standard was titled " Nanotechnology - Evaluation of methods for evaluating the release of nanomaterials from commercial multiple structures." containing nanomaterials" was reviewed and approved.
The use of manufactured nanomaterials in consumer products and their applications is growing due to the manufacturers' exploitation of the unique properties of nanomaterials. Equally, there are concerns about what is or could be released from products containing manufactured nanomaterials and what the risks and potential effects of exposure to such releases are.
Case studies have been selected due to the availability of information and methods related to real-world applications of engineered nanomaterials (MNM). The release of polymer nanostructures can occur through processes such as physical, chemical, or thermal degradation of a polymer matrix and lead to the creation of particles that may contain a mixture of free MNM, free polymer, and MNM attached to the matrix. This standard focuses on the first release in human exposure or an outflow pathway.
The purpose of developing this standard is to review and evaluate the applicability of existing methods for evaluating materials released from commercial multi-supplier structures in support of product safety and use decisions.
