The International Nanotechnology Olympiad (INO) is a unique international competition designed to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration among university students working on nanotechnology-based solutions to global challenges. The event brings together outstanding young talents, academic experts, and innovation leaders from different countries to showcase cutting-edge research and technology-driven business concepts.

As the Permanent Secretariat of the International Nanotechnology Olympiad, the Iran Nano and Micro Technologies Innovation Council (INIC) continues to support the development and expansion of this international platform, which aims to strengthen global cooperation in nanotechnology education, innovation, and commercialization.

The theme of the 2026 Olympiad is “Nano-biotechnology and Health”, reflecting the growing role of nanotechnology in advancing healthcare solutions, biotechnology applications, diagnostics, therapeutics, and medical innovation.

According to the official guidelines, each participating country may nominate one official team, consisting of up to four university students, one supervising professor, and one international jury member. Teams must be officially nominated by a recognized institution in their respective countries.

Participating teams are expected to develop and present innovative nanotechnology-based solutions aligned with the competition theme. Submitted projects should demonstrate a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) above 3 and a Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of at least 1. In addition to scientific presentations, teams will be required to pitch the commercialization potential of their innovations, including the submission of a four-minute business pitch video. Physical prototypes and functional demonstrations are strongly encouraged.

To facilitate international participation, the host country will provide full hospitality support for official delegations, including accommodation, meals, local transportation, and cultural activities for a seven-day program. Furthermore, cash prizes will be awarded to the top-performing teams, with details to be announced by the organizers at a later stage.

The Olympiad has evolved into one of the most important international nanotechnology competitions for university students, creating opportunities for young innovators to transform scientific ideas into practical solutions with real-world impact. Through INO, participants gain valuable experience in technology development, entrepreneurship, international networking, and commercialization strategies.

Countries interested in participating are required to complete the official registration process and submit all required documents through the Olympiad’s registration portal by September 15, 2026.
