A Green Method to Manufacture Smart Drug Delivery Systems

Iranian Research teams at University of Maragheh and Tehran Payame Noor University managed to design a drug delivery system which can be used in cancer treatment.

A new drug delivery system consisted of non-toxic polysaccharides, is designed to lower the harmful side-effects of chemical medications to treat cancer. 

The smart drug delivery system can be used to deliver a variety of anti-cancer agents. The prominent feature of this system is its green manufacturing method; The raw material used for its production is completely non-toxic to living organisms. In addition, the process of manufacturing the system does not create wastes harmful to the environment, and due to the use of inexpensive raw materials, the final production cost is relatively low.

Dr. Gholam Reza Mahdavinia, a faculty member at Maragheh University, Mohammad Hasan Karimi, Ph.D. candidate and Dr. Bakhshali Massoumi faculty member at Tehran Payame Noor University are key team members working on this project.

The results of this research are published in the Journal of Material Science and Engineering with an impact factor of 5.08.
