Utilizing CNT Improves Sensitivity of Amoxicillin Analysis up to 100 Times

TEHRAN (INIC)- Researchers at Isfahan University of Technology in Iran managed to improve the sensitivity of amoxicillin analysis up to 100 times by applying carbon nano tubes.

"Applying nanoparticles like carbon nano tubes, metal nanoparticles, etc. make it possible to analyze low concentrations of analysts which in turn improve the performance of electrochemical sensors," Behzad Rezaei explained to the News Service of INIC.

"In a collaborative work with Mr. Sajjad Dairi from Isfahan University of Technology, we could determine and analyze dilute solutions of amoxicillin with an approximate precision of 0.2 micromolar through cyclic voltametric methods together with the application of nanoparticles," Rezaie added.

Noting that the proposed method has bettered analysis sensitivity up to 100 times compared to similar analysis methods, he reiterated that another chapter of the research dealt with amoxicillin oxidation reactions studies with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy which is so useful in drug behavior interpretations.

Rezaei and his colleague conducted initial treatments, functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and preparation of nano-modified glass carbon electrode (GCE) to fully investigate the electrochemical behavior of the mentioned drug and its determination practicability. Next, they identified the influential parameters and unwanted interfering ones as well as analysis defects. Finally, they could improve the quality of the proposed method with analysis of real sample tissues.
